The work is based on the sketch painted by N. Roerich during his stay in the summer camp of the Urusvati Institute's expedition. The expedition of the Urusvati Institute was engaged in scientific research in the Chandra River valley. Chandra is one of the main rivers of Lahul. It originates in the glaciers of the pass of Baralacha. From there it flows to the south, skirting the glacier Bara Shigru from northwest, and near Tandi, it merges with the river Bhaga. In the lower reaches, these two rivers become Chinab, the most powerful waterway in India and Pakistan.
