"The Himalayas! To the north of us, here are two peaks of Gepang 23,000 feet high, so similar in shape to Belukha. Every day, they have a new lighting, a new sky", the artist wrote in his essay "The Himalayas". N. Roerich especially loved the view of the sacred Gepang – the abode of a deity who was the patron of the Lahul Valley. Besides its similarity to Belukha, by its shape in the form of the letter "M", it reminded him of his spiritual Teacher. The landscape depicted in the work is recognized by attentive viewers in such program works as the variants of the painting "The Order of the Teacher" of 1931 and 1947.
