"An unusually blissful impression is produced by this blessed country, associated with the memories of great religious ascetics. Here Padma Sambhava lived, the founder of the red-headed sect; here Attisha passed to Tibet, who proclaimed the Kalachakra teachings; here many ascetics stayed in caves, filling the space with their good thoughts. Behind Kanchenjunga, in the dungeons, hermits are still dwelling, and only a trembling hand, stretched out for food after a conventional sign, shows that the physical body has not yet gone. All 17 peaks of the Himalayas shine above Sikkim. From west to east: Kang, Janu, Small Kabru, Kabru, Doumpik, Talung, Kanchenjunga, Pandim, Juboni, Simvu, Narsingh, Siniolchu, Pakichu, Chomomo, Lama Andem, Kanchenjau. A whole snow country that changes its outlines with every change of light. Truly inexhaustible with its impressions and relentlessly appealing."
