A work that logically continues the theme of "The Doomed City", painted in 1914 in anticipation of the impending war. Here, we can already see the accomplishment of a disaster. Whereas in the picture of 1914, with all its "doom", there is still a small hope shown by the white color of the city that looks alive in the blue color of the sky and water in the coming night, in "The Dead City", we see a finally ruined city, with deadly green reflections in a gloomy black night. In the light of a lonely glowing star, a fiery serpent, looking like the dying embers of a fire, in a predatory rush, squeezed the dead city – the symbol of the war madness against the backdrop of a decline in morals and culture, destroying all living things.
