Another work inspired by the sense of impending war and chaos. On the contrary, the artist feels repentance amidst this growing madness. He is divorced from his motherland, he is seriously ill and wrote a will but, at the same time, being in solitude, he experiences a new stage in his life, rethinks it, gets acquainted with the pearls of wisdom of the East. Near a dark, snow-covered Lutheran church, we see a lonely, inclined figure in a monastic robe. It is hard to understand whether it is a man or a woman. But Nikolay Roerich's essence is present elsewhere: for him, it is important to convey the very symbol of repentance. This is not a personal tragedy, but the mood of the historical epoch; therefore, the figure is impersonal and small, against the background of the slightly sinister church and the walls of a monastery behind it. The sky covered with heavy clouds complements the depressing scene. Quietly falling snow blends with the inner silence of the lone figure. The picture was painted in Karelia and, perhaps, it depicts the island of Linnasaari.
