Ladakh, that Roerich was so fond of, gave him many breathtaking views of monasteries and temples. He wrote: “I do not want to give any ethnographic or geographical character to the local images. Let them go like symbols: “Shrines and Fortresses”. Let their common tone of heroism and feat told us about this country.”
