The painting was painted by Roerich in the USA, shortly before the trip to India.

In the landscape of the Grand Canyon (Arizona, USA), we see a large stone bridge, behind which a sun-like glow rises. In the picture, seven figures in long white robes bowed their heads awaiting the arrival of the Messiah. He still does not see behind the stone bridge, but the wonderful light of His aura (Glory) rises above the dark slope. According to ancient legends, the Great Coming must occur at the Bridge of Worlds.

In one of his essays the artist writes: “Messiah will come across the bridge. Kabbalists know this unifying symbol. The Great Rider on a white horse, with a comet as the sword of Light in His right hand. A noble Abyssinian said: “We also have an old legend. When the Savior of the World comes, He will pass over the stone bridge. And seven people know about His coming. And when they see the Light, they will fall to the ground and worship the Light”.

(N.K. Roerich. Maitreya)

In the picture, rectangular lines of rocky cliffs dynamically combine with the circle of Glory and the arc-shaped of the bridge. The heavy masonry of the bridge contrasts with the fiery sphere which seems to breathe, pulsate. The effects of reflexes, shades, halftones create a special iridescent glow of color, characteristic of auroras, flickering stars, falling meteorites. “The Miracle” is entirely impregnated with radiance. The solar plasma spread in the sky sends color reflexes to all surrounding space. The synergy of additional tones creates a bright glow of the fiery phenomenon and saturates the painting a blinding brilliance.
