Lake Tsongmo, which can be found on numerous landscapes by Nikolay Roerich, is located on the way from Jelap-la and Natu-la to Gangtok. In all likelihood, it was traversed by the first Central Asian expedition in May 1928. This is one of the sacred high-mountain lakes of the Sikkim Valley; its surroundings offer a majestic views of Kanchenjunga.

The artist depicts the lake in gentle lilac-purple and milky tones, perhaps in the pre-dawn hour.

The title “Thence” may tell us that the lake is located on the outskirts of the secret areas of Tibet, from where passed the route of the first Central Asian expedition.
