This picture is amazing in its beauty and expressiveness, where, inside the dark space of a cathedral, velvet blue turns into dark purple, and then contrasts sharply with the green opening of the evening sky in the arch. In the distance, you can see the city, blazing in a yellow-red and purple flame of fire. Saint Genevieve prays for its salvation. Genevieve lived in Paris in the 5–6th centuries. She was known for its predictions and miracles. By her prayers and asceticism, she repeatedly saved the city from disasters and invasions. Almost immediately after her death, Genevieve was revered as the patron saint of Paris. Painting the saint in the cathedral of John the Baptist, the artist follows exactly her biography, telling that she lived in a house on the outskirts of Paris, next to a wooden baptismal church. Here, according to the hagiographer, Genevieve gathered the women of Paris to pray for the salvation of the city from the invasion of conquerors. The image of John the Baptist, the baptistery, the cross in the hands of the saint, – so the picture thrice stressed the idea of the main mission of Genevieve, who became the truly Godmother of her Motherland.
