The sketch was painted in the famous Dome Cathedral, which is known for its beautiful old organ of the highest European class and the fine acoustics of the building itself. Here during the artist’s visit in 1903, Alfred Kalniņš, a well-known Latvian composer and organist, performed his improvisations almost every day. According to some reports, the sketch was painted at one of these concerts.
