N.K. Roerich’s first trips through Finland and Southern Karelia took place in 1907. He painted his impressions in a variety of superb landscapes. Then, when he returned to this place in 1916 and lived here for almost three years, he continued to paint the northern fairy tale. The works of the so-called Karelian period are characterized by a laconic pattern, generality, a restrained color palette.
